The Standard Software Project methodology is based on proceeding through each stage of the project, and at the end of the stage performing a check, review or test to assure the Project Manager and stakeholders that the stage has been executed to the required quality. Ideally stages are executed sequentially, however, in practice it can sometimes be beneficial to run stages in parallel. A project plan should be used to monitor progress and it is recommended that it should be updated and reviewed at least monthly.
When an issue occurs or when it is necessary to change an important aspect of a project, e.g. to increase a resource estimate, change a milestone or vary to the scope then the Project Issue and Change Control Log (PICCL) is used to record, explain and, where required, gain approval for the change.
The projects web site provides a complete set of template documents for this methodology and a filing structure that is logical and clear, making it straightforward for project stakeholders to locate and update project documents.
