Insurance application re-development

Proposal Sponsor:
Liz Welch

Overview

The insurance web application is a collection of online forms with an underlying MSAccess database.  The application is used by staff and students undertaking travel, vehicle hire and transit.  The information held in the database is used for renewal quotes from insurance companies, FOI requests and reporting.  It currently handles over 7500 applications per year.

It was originally developed by Finance about 5 years ago and has until recently been supported by them.  However, the key person in Finance has now left the University and there is no-one else in Finance with the time to take on this role.  The application is not located on the IS Apps supported infrastructure.

This proposal is to re-develop the application to be supported by IS Apps.  We will also take the opportunity to review the application and enhance where required.  In particular, improved validation and archiving is required.

What would happen if the project did not take place?:

The application will continue to be unsupported and in the event of any issues could become unusable and/or lead to a loss of key financial information.
