Business case to support the migration of specific administration tools from bespoke College platforms to Student Systems

Proposal Sponsor:
Paul Clark

Overview

Over the years, CMVM has delivered some “common student administration functions” embedded within their bespoke VLE’s.

As part of the programme of work to help migrate the College to supported University infrastructure and central platforms, this is an opportunity to help work closely with Student Systems and others to develop a roadmap to migrate specific functions into EUCLID and other more suitable platforms.

What would happen if the project did not take place?:

The College would continue to use non-standard platforms, leaving increased risk and cost of maintaining older systems.

Who does it affect?:

This will primarily affect the Undergraduate Medical and Veterinary programmes

Why is it needed/What are the benefits?:

The College is recording student administration information within their bespoke VLE’s.  While a roadmap is being developed to migrate core functionality over into the University supported VLE environments, which the College is already top sliced for, there are other administration functions embedded within the current bespoke VLE’s which also need to be migrated to core systems to allow these systems to be fully retired.

The benefits in using core University systems are self-evident regarding reduced risk, cost and support, and is a clear driver for the College for all platforms moving forward.

Compliance justification (if relevant):

To ensure the College integrates with core University systems where ever possible, support is required to ensure that this work can be scoped, delivered, and prioritised where applicable.
