Report for Dec 2019

Report Date

Programme Commentary

Overall the programme is AMBER.

Automated solution for EDW access and authorisation is not urgent. Existing manual solution is robust enough for the short term. Don't want to invest in automation until future usage patterns  of EDW is better understood

Both DTI034 and DTI047 need additional funding to continue into 19/20 - this will come from the DTI BI/MI Programme and has been agreed with the DTI Portfolio Manager, Stephen Roy

Key Achievements in Last Period

  • DTI034 - Qliksense hooked up to HR datamart on EDW in DEV. Prep for deploy to LIVE started
  • DTI047 - EDW data access and authorisations options appraisal held and way forward agreed

Top Issues

  • Need to agree a long-term solution for EDW access and authorisations considering both the Qlik and Power BI user communities, and any budget implication
  • Need to deploy new Qlik services to LIVE

Key Next Steps

  • DTI034 - Deploy new Qlik services to LIVE
  • DTI047 - Complete options appraisal and secure funding to deliver recommended option

RAG - Amber

Report by Jamie Thin for Dec 2019

Achievements this period

  • Consensus reached within project team for recommended option - to extend existing interim solution to add some scripting and automation , to allow the interim solution to scale up to bigger numbers of users
  • Resource booking made with IS Apps S/W dev team for developer to do some outline design work and price up the work

Issues

  • Need to bid for funding to automate interim solution ( rough estimate 50d small project requiring 20d effort from IS Dev services team, pending more detailed estimation from the developer)

Next Steps

  • Fine tune approach for access and authorisation through a small pilot with GASP
  • Agree how any extra unplanned work will be funded - either as part of new phase of DTI047 , or to be delivered by a new project
  • Complete work to embed new EDW / BI Tools service
  • Launch new service
  • Close project

RAG Commentary

Amber Issue - need a steer on BI Tools strategy to align this project work with longer term strategy. Propose to fully support both Qliksense and Power BI. Need to agree business requirements to feed into estimate of development costs of the EDW Access and Authorisation solution.

Some requirements will be agreed through a pilot with GASP
