Report by Alan Gilchrist for March 2017

Achievements:
  • Meeting took place between Graham Newton, Lesley Greer and Alan Gilchrist to allow Graham to handover the master spreadsheet of the ISFM and MVMFM PCs.
  • The suggested replacement plan for MVMFM, which removes the large purchase spike in future years was discussed and this was then passed on to Paul Clark for budget agreement.  The initial plan for this year is to replace 124 PCs across MVM, however this figure may change by a few PCs depending on the use of rooms going forwards.  21 of the PCs are the Vets kiosk PCs which currently access the Tristan application, so funding for these still needs to be agreed.
  • Replacement PCs have started to be purchased, due to HP stating that they will be putting their prices up by 15% from Friday 7th April.

AMBER

Report by Alan Gilchrist for March 2017

Achievements:

Vet School:

AV contractor has been on-site to visit the rooms and is looking to schedule the work in for the first 3 weeks in June.  Most of the AV equipment will be built off-site.  Need to get Vet School to book out the rooms.

Chancellor's Building:

SU209 (PG Viva/Video Suite) - Engie has started work on redecorating the room and should be finished by the end of Friday 7th April.  Need to chase up the partition screen for this room and then procure the remaining AV kit.

Microlabs 1 & 2 - Engie stripped out the electrics to the centre desks on Wednesday 5th April.  All old chairs and desks were picked up by dirty works on the same day.  Work will carry on over April.

Undergraduate Medical Teaching Room - No progress on this room, so have set up a meeting with Estates and Engie to find out what the hold up is.  Concerns over this room, since it is booked out for the refurbishment in June and no minor works order has gone in to Engie yet.  AV tender will return on Friday 7th April.

Lecture Theatre A - AV tender will return on Friday 7th April.  No dates have been set for the refurbishment/upgrade yet.

Other rooms are on track as per previous reports.

Report by Alan Gilchrist for March 2017

Achievements:
  • Several meetings have taken place to discuss options for the new academic year and whether MVM can be at the 'front of the queue' for the new notification service being released.
  • In the short term, it looks likely that MBChB will be able to make use of the LEARN announcements feature (since they are moving to LEARN over the summer) however the group structure within LEARN and processes for announcing items will need to be agreed by the academics.
  • Connecttxt is still an option for MBChB use, if they want to start using something in the very short term, however the admin overhead within the MTO, as well as the communications process and student opt-in form will still need to be agreed.

Report by Alan Gilchrist for March 2017

Achievements:
  • Alan Gilchrist had some discussions with LTW (Myles Blaney) to see if there were certain features in existence which would negate the need for this project, however unfortunately at this point, none of the following can have a hard limit set for submissions, so an alternative solution will need to be found and implemented: TurnItIn Blackboard Moodle PebblePad
  • A Meeting with Karen Harris, Mayank Dutia, Sarfraz Mohammed, Jens Brincker and Alan Gilchrist took place on 7th March to discuss initial scope and requirements for the project.
  • Mayank showed the system he had been creating in Python which could be a possibility, however it was agreed that discussions would be initiated with the other Colleges to see if they had something implemented, as well as looking for off the shelf products which could be used.
  • Karen is looking for the solution to be implemented by mid-August, so that communication can go out to the students for the start of the new academic year.
  • A project manager still needs to be assigned to this, so for the time being it is sitting with Alan Gilchrist.
