Achievements this period

Vet School

Work is ongoing in G.01 and the two lecture theatres to install the new lecture recording (Media Hopper Replay) equipment.  There is a proposed change from LST to the preview monitors in these rooms to accommodate camera functionality in these rooms.  Any change to the functionality needs to be cleared by the Vet School, since they’ve already had familiarisation sessions.

Little France

Microlabs 1 & 2, Undergraduate Medical Teaching Room, Boardroom and the PG Viva room have all been completed and are working as expected.  The Undergraduate Medical Teaching Room is due to have lecture recording equipment installed in the next few weeks, once room and AV contractor availability is agreed.

Lecture Theatre A has had all equipment installed within the new teaching desk, however an issue projecting in 4K has appeared, so additional work will need to be carried out.  Current workaround is to project at HD resolution (1080p).

Kennedy Tower

Work was completed in the rooms and teaching has been taking place.  There have been a few teething issues with the equipment, so ongoing checks are taking place.

Central Area

The redecoration of the PG Viva room in Hugh Robson Building still needs to be completed, so this will be chased up.

Report by Alan Gilchrist for August 2017

Achievements this period
  • Linked to the VLE migration for the MBChB, now that LEARN has been released to the medical students, announcements can be sent to students in that format.

  • To recap, two meetings took place in June to showcase what the new notification service will be able to provide once it's deployed.  Use cases for MVM (mainly specific to MBChB students at the moment) have been supplied to the notification services project team, so that they can build the necessary functionality into the service.

  • Brendan Owers will be setting up a further meeting with Alan Gilchrist, Nicola Crowley and/or Lydia Crow to check if there are any other use cases not currently considered and to start discussion how the notifications need to be created.  This is related to project DTI020, and this project will be superseded by this.

Issues
  • Getting access to the right resources due to other workloads is a challenge.
Next Steps
  • A workshop is to be organised by Brendan regarding the new notification service in September - this will be a demo of the system, and a walk through of how this works.
  • Expectations are that work package 1, which will deilver the training, guidence, support and documentation to use the basic notification services in Learn, and also build on the Minimal Viable Product (MVP) approach thereafter.  Due for delivery before the end of October.
