Report by Muriel Mewissen on behalf of Alan Gilchrist (MVMLAT Programme Managers)
for Sheila Lodge (MVMLAT Programme Owner)

Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Commentary

During October, three projects were closed, taking the current number of active projects  in the MVMLAT programme to 8 down from 11. These are:

  1. MVM101 Connectivity - on-campus and off-campus. A new will be initiated to cover further in this area to be delivered later this year.
  2. MVM111 Technology to support short-notice communications to students. MVM will now be a pilot school for the central service developed as part of Digital Transformation - User Centred Portal and Notifications project.
  3. MVM122 Biomedical Sciences submission word count facility. This cannot be supported by the technology and application used.

A lot of effort (21 days) has been spent supporting the progress of MVM118 Deployment of FRY-IT Practique for MBChB where formative exams are now being carried away on all years.

The RAG status for one project, MVM121 Reporting of Assessment Outcomes for External Bodies is RED due to ongoing delays in obtaining sign-off on the recommendation report, recently because of stakeholders availability due to leave.

The overall status of the MVMLAT programme is RED.

Please note that the project RAG status is following the revised guidelines: A one-page summary of the IS RAG status indicators is available on this page.

Report by Alan Gilchrist for October 2017

Achievements this period

  • The USB mobile broadband dongles have been received well by the students over at St John's, therefore we are continuing to use these as the short term solution for the on going WiFi issues experienced over there.
  • A new configuration has been implemented for the library PCs in St John's and the first PC has been taken across and tested.  Log in times are down to approximately 1 minute, however most of the applications preinstalled on student Open Access computers are no longer available.  The remaining PCs will be switched over to the new configuration early in November and a notice is provided on the PC log in screen instructing students what to do if software they would normally use is missing.
  • As a number of the original objectives of this project have been met, this project is being closed.

Issues

Next Steps

  • A new project  will be opened for the 2017-18 session which will focus on completing any outstanding issues (i.e. speed issues in NHS Lothian) as well as identifying the next phase of improvements at other sites.

Report by Alan Gilchrist for October 2017

Achievements this period

  • Chancellor's Building - Mediascape returned to investigate the 4K resolution issue in lecture theatre A.  The problem appears to relate to the Extron scaler/switcher which is supposed to be capable of supporting 4K on the 2 HDMI outputs.  Alan to investigate further with Extron (directly) and possibly exchange the unit for the latest released version which supports 4K on all outputs.

Issues

  • Vet School - Presenter mode not working correctly in the lecture theatres and additional screen needs installed in G.01.

Next Steps

  • PG Viva room in HRB - Need to chase up estates regarding the painting of the walls and then reconfigure the AV equipment to match that in the PG Viva room in Chancellor's Building.

  • Project will remain open until these issues have been resolved.
