Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Commentary

Programme status: The overall status of the MVMLAT programme is GREEN. There is some impact from industrial action but the prioritisation for 19/20 has been completed and most projects are progressing to plan.

Risks

  • Industrial action: This risk has increased - the programme's work is being impacted again from planned industrial action in February and March 2020.
  • Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19): There is a risk this programme may be impacted by any measures that are implemented to reduce impact from the spread of Covid-19. The risk is held at portfolio level.

Project highlights

  • MVM112: First half of draft report for simulation equipment has been completed, which has identified specific years when replacement costs are due to be incurred.
  • MVM125: The second PC for the PAEP library has been built and configured to use a mobile broadband USB dongle
  • MVM132: Second draft of report with lead for testing. Location of report agreed.
  • MVM134: Development work delivered. Project now moving into Closure.
  • MVM135: New proposed layout for the Greenfield Suite main lab is confirmed
  • MVM136: Training days took place as planned on 24/25 February. Vets/BMTO LIVE and TEST instances delivered and Single sign-on implemented
  • MVM137: Discussed replacements with local IT teams, identifying possible storage options for the deliveries. Delivery from HP may be delayed due to impact to manufacturing from Covid-19.
  • MVM138: Some impact from MVM134 overrun but efficiencies were possible reusing some of the development from MVM134.
  • MVM139: Technical upgrade completed. Project now in planned suspension until other projects have delivered and resources are available.
  • MVM516: Project has started but has been impacted by industrial action.

Please note that the project RAG status is following the revised guidelines: A one-page summary of the IS RAG status indicators is available on this page.

Section Three: Projects in Progress

MVM Learning and Teaching Projects Update

MVM112: Technology to support simulation teaching - RAG Status: GREEN

Report by Alan Gilchrist

Achievements this period

  • First half of draft report for simulation equipment has been completed, which has identified specific years when replacement costs are due to be incurred.
  • Briefly reviewed database information provided by other organisation.  To progress any further with this route requires GDPR checks.

Issues

  • None

Next Steps

  • Evaluate the possibility of another organisation's database to see if it could be used within our context.
  • Continue development of Simulated Patient database, looking more into the MS PowerApps route.
  • Complete second half of draft report outlining the University’s simulation equipment currently available within the Chancellor’s Building Clinical Skills Centre and WGH MEC.  Include proposed maintenance costs, annual recurring costs and replacement cycles.

MVM125: Connectivity - Off-campus 2018/19 - RAG Status: GREEN

Report by Alan Gilchrist

Achievements this period

  • The second PC for the PAEP library has been built and configured to use a mobile broadband USB dongle.

Issues

  • Requests for additional wireless networking resource in the student residences at the Borders General Hospital have been received by the ACT officer.  The residences are currently provided with a shared BT Infinity connection, however this doesn't appear to be giving sufficient bandwidth for the number of students.  Options for improvement would be either to see if the NHS would extend their wireless network out to the residences (unlikely based on past experience) or to increase the number of BT connections to the residences.  Given funding constraints this year, can the College provide money to improve the student's wi-fi experience next financial year?

Next Steps

  • Deliver two PCs to the PAEP library for student use.
  • Create easy rebuild procedure for PAEP library, since it is not a fully supported desktop build.
  • Receive suggested options for restoring eduroam connectivity in NHS Lanarkshire.
MVM132 MBChB ranking reports in BI Suite  - RAG Status: GREEN

  • Re-work and re-testing if required
  • Confirmation of second report owner in MVM
  • Closure

Report by Andrew Millington

Achievements this period

  • Fixed tutor evaluation system
  • Implemented search which was missing from original workload
  • Added NPI scores and updated question scores to comply with old system

Issues

  • None

Next Steps

  • Seek formal sign-off for closure of project

MVM135 Upgrading of Teaching Spaces 2019/20 - RAG Status: GREEN

Report by Alan Gilchrist

Achievements this period

  • New proposed layout for the Greenfield Suite main lab is confirmed, based on the feedback provided by the main users of the space.  Designs have been created and discussions with estates have begun.
  • Rooms identified for this year are now being split between two budgets, which has provided us with additional funding to cover most of the rooms we have identified for this year.
  • AV designs for all of the Vet School rooms (other than room 1.21 Clinical Skills) have been completed.

Issues

  • Ceiling height in the Greenfield Suite side rooms is an issue for installing the Nureva Span/Wall system proposed, based on the information given on Nureva's website.  Need to identify possible alternative if this can't be resolved.

Next Steps

  • Further investigation regarding the equipment requirements for Vet School 1.21 Clinical Skills needs to be carried out.
  • Discussion with Nureva regarding limited ceiling height is scheduled for March 10th.
  • Complete remaining AV designs and then tender documents for each of the room upgrades.

MVM136 Practique Roll-out - RAG Status: GREEN

Report by Susan Ridder-Patrick

Achievements this period

  • SSO enabled on TEST and LIVE Vets/BMTO instances

Issues

  • None

Next Steps

  • Supplier to provide report from training days
  • Vets to prepare for pilot
  • BMTO to consider actions from training day for EMQs

Report by Alan Gilchrist

Achievements this period

Issues

  • Delivery estimates from HP are very vague at the moment due to uncertainties regarding manufacturing.  These estimates vary at the moment, with possible cases being 3 months or more.

Next Steps

  • Create orders for the PC replacements in March.  Depending on delivery times (if shorter than expected) PCs for the Vet School may have to be delivered to our offsite storage provider.

MVM516 BMS - Honours Project Portal Future Support - RAG Status: AMBER

Report by Susan Ridder-Patrick

Achievements this period

  • Code has been downloaded and initial work has started but no tasks have been completed ye

Issues

  • Development delayed due to industrial action and competing projects within the development team

Next Steps

  • Commence development of project

Report by Andrew Millington

Achievements this period

  • Ability to add/edit/delete clinical EMS practices
  • Ability to search for clinical EMS practices
  • Ability to add/edit/delete vets in the system
  • View detailed search results about placement providers

Issues

  • Automatic tests are sometimes failing. Team will take some time this week to investigate this issue to ensure tests work as expected
  • Some development time was lost as MVM134 development had not finished and required some development time

Next Steps
