MVM Learning and Teaching Projects Update

MVM125: Connectivity - Off-campus 2018/19 - RAG Status: AMBER

Report by Alan Gilchrist

Achievements this period

  • Project has been brought out of a suspended state, so that increased focus can be placed on it.
  • NHS Lothian IT have stated that they can't provide any more resources to the eduroam connection they advertise on their wireless infrastructure, however they have increased resources on their free (visitor) wifi and this has now been proven to be sufficient to allow tutors to run Blackboard Collaborate sessions through.

Issues

  • Purchasing of SIM cards for tablets to go out to NHS sites has been extremely difficult and time consuming.  This is currently with the finance section, as we need to sign up to a new contract with Vodafone's business section.
  • USB mobile broadband dongles for student use in NHS Lanarkshire have stopped working.  These are being posted back to Alan Gilchrist to investigate and restore connectivity.
  • NHS Lanarkshire are still experiencing issues with their eduroam wifi.
  • NHS Borders have again requested additional assistance with wireless connectivity in their student residences, as students have been raising concerns.  The current provision through BT Infinity needs to be investigated, so that a we can decide on the best way forwards.

Next Steps

  • Investigate issues with student wifi dongles for NHS Lanarkshire.
  • Contact NHS Lanarkshire IT to discuss issues with their eduroam connectivity.
  • Contact NHS Borders to decide the best route for investigating issues in the student residences.
  • Complete the financial processes in order to procure the new SIM cards for tablets, so that they can be delivered to numerous NHS sites.

MVM140 CMVM eAssessment RAG Status: AMBER

Report by Alistair Wallace

Achievements this period

  • None

Issues

  • It became clear that the existing operational processes in BAU were not as effective as the business wanted.  A practical example with non UoE staff's names not feeding through evidenced that additional support was required in this area.  It has taken longer than anticipated to discuss and agree the operational processes required in BAU.  The business recommended the revision to the target date and the exercise to agree changes to processes continues with a target date of 16th November.
  • Problems have been identified with the data download associated with reporting from Pebblepad.  While filtering can take place within the app, the download contains all the data and therefore is substantial and requires manual effort.  Investigation is taking place into the use of Power BI to assist and Pebblepad are being approached to identify if the download can be more easily managed.

Next Steps

  • Approval of Change to "Service operations/processes agreed" milestone
