Report for February 2017

Report Date
February 2017
Report by Muriel Mewissen on behalf of David Perry and Anthony Davie (MVMRes Programme Managers)
for Brian Walker and Paul McGuire (MVMRes Portfolio Owner)
and Paul Clark (MVM Portfolio Manager) and Catherine Elliot (MVM Portfolio Owner)

Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Commentary:

During February, good progress was made across most ongoing projects. A review of projects to be started this year resulted in  MVM307 REF readiness being withdrawn, and MVM303 Data Management Plans and MVM309 Scientific Administration Process Enhancements being postponed to next academic session.

The overhaul status is AMBER due to MVM302 Compute and High Performance Compute Strategy  being AMBER because of time delays.

Please note that the project RAG status is following the revised guidelines: A one-page summary of the IS RAG status indicators is available on this page.

Achievements

  • No new project achievements since w/c 13th February '17.

Ongoing concerns

  • Delays incurred in progressing project, due to resourcing pressure on current project manager.
  • Some concerns raised from Roslin researchers after Eddie 3 was re-provisioned in relation to issues with "qlogin" nodes. This is being investigated by Research Services, with input from Easter Bush IS team (Barry Horne).

Next steps

All steps carried forward from end of January '17 report:

  • To progress with re-initiating project

  • To review with IGMM and Research Services, the impact of Eddie stability through 2016 and to consider the confidence levels in Eddie ahead of revising planning submission.

  • Review and revise planning submission before progressing with outstanding carried forward actions (see below).

  • Carried forward from Nov ’16:

    • Arrange follow up meeting with Research Computing Programme business owner and IT Programme Manager to review revised planning submission, make a decision as to whether to approve and proceed, and if proceeding to score and prioritise the project proposal.
    • Subject to project approval, scoring and prioritisation, to move to assigning a project manager and scoping project resourcing, including budgeting and timescales and determining if a project board is required.
    • Assuming this project is approved and the previous step is completed, move to creating a project brief for stakeholder consideration, sign-off and project initiation.
