Programme Commentary

In this reporting period both projects have achieved their next scheduled milestones. Despite performance issues on LIVE the migration project has successfully completed the 3rd migration phase. Although the migration phase has been completed, the remaining migration schedule is under review as it is clear that the current significant level of commitment to out of hours is not sustainable for a longer period of time. The CMS development work is now in it's final phase. In the last reporting period EdWeb Release 4 was successfully released. The graphic design risk noted for the past few months has been reduced as CAM have committed to complete all activities currently underway. For June we have a code and performance review scheduled by external consultants.

In June programme planning for 2015/16.

Report by Karen Stirling for May 2015

Achievements in Last Period

  • Release 3 –  52 sites have been migrated as part of this release, resulting now in a total of 66 sites being migrated via the project
  • Release 3 review completed and actions taken to feed into release 4 and 5
  • 5 JIRAs remaining to be resolved
  • Migration coordinator activities ongoing for Release 4 together with communications being issued out by Migration Liaison Officers to site owners in preparation for release 4 commencing on 01/06
  • Preparation for early migration to Test for IS websites
  • Release 5 sites have been allocated a Migration Liaison Officer
  • Test Migrate VM Environment now has bamboo deployment plan created ready for use

Issues

  • Test Migrate VM Build delayed due to firewall issue and resource allocated to performance issue on UWP006
  • Last batch of sites migration to LIVE and URL Switching were delayed due to performance issues to the home page / panelizer which was resolved via fix on UWP006. This reulted ibn the last remaining sites being URL switched on 2nd June
  • Release 3 review, the project team agreed to include 2 two week breaks during release period to act as a buffer and catch up point should any further issues be encountered similar to the perfromance issues experienced at the end of release 3. An exercise is underway with Migration Liasion Officers to reschedule sites to accommodate this hiatus in both release 4 and 5 which would result in an extension of project milestones for these releases and project closure date. This review is also required to ensure the level of editorial effort is available to cover the number of sites being migrated in these two releases (4 & 5) which are circa 170 and 70 respectively
  • A review of project effort will be undertaken as part of the above exercise.

Next Steps

  • Resolution of remaining JIRAs via Release 4
  • Commence migration for Release 4, first site due to move to staging on 2nd June
