Programme Commentary

In this reporting period work has continued on both active projects. Wunderroot were on site and performed an infrastructure and code audit. Their recommendations have been implemented with huge performance improvement measures on EdWeb. The EdWeb development is now in the final iteration and progressing well. In order to deliver bug fixes and new features faster, and with the number of users increasing continuously, the project team have deployed code to LIVE after each of the last two iterations.

To allow more flexibility and reduce the risk of postponing some sites move over to EdWeb, the migration schedule is in the process of being replanned. This will see the migration continue to the end of Q1 2016.

The budget for next year’s programme has not yet been confirmed, this is a concern and a programme risk has been raised detailing the impact of the current status.

Report by Karen Stirling for June 2015

Achievements in Last Period

  • 5 JIRAs remaining to be resolved/closed
  • Migration coordinator activities ongoing for Release 4 together with communications being issued out by Migration Liaison Officers to site owners for release 4 date changes aligned to the reschedule of migrations following decision to incorporate breaks to mitigate risks to schedule
  • Student Funding sites is first release 4 sites to be migrated and switched to Live - 67 Sites are now live in EdWeb
  • A further 9 sites now in Live and passed to editorial teams/site owners
  • IS websites successfully migrated to TEST MIGRATE sites for early testing by IS Champions

Issues

  • An exercise is in progress with Migration Liasion Officers to reschedule sites to accommodate break weeks in both release 4 and 5 which would result in an extension of project milestones for these releases and project closure date. This review has also taken into consideration the level of editorial effort is available to cover the number of sites being migrated in these two releases (4 & 5) which are circa 170 and 70 respectively
  • IS websites migration highlighted a number of duplicate folders which is being reviewed and review of more accurate page numbers required. Migration to TEST Migrate was completed in four batches therefore a review of this process is required to assess process to move to Staging and Live.

Next Steps

  • Resolution of remaining JIRAs via Release 4
  • Continue migrations for Release 4
  • Co-ordination activities for migration
  • Preparation for IS website migrations
