The RSS compute and storage infrastructure underpins all computational and data based research activities in UoE. All infrastructure hardware has a finite defined maintenance lifetime. A typical supported lifetime for server and storage hardware is 5 years (the majority of vendors will not supply maintenance for longer periods). University of Edinburgh research infrastructures have been operating in a “rolling refresh” model for the last 5 years.

The project will aim to deliver:
1. Data futures requirements gathering (HESA’s transformation programme to deliver a more efficient data collection process); this work will enable an understanding of what is required to meet the requirements of the new HESA return, address the system design options and how Tribal software can be best used to capture data. Aim is to capture all the requirements and prioritise them.

Storage Manager Operational Transition
This project will take the updated and improved Storage Manager code created in RSS035 and create the back-end connections and scripts that are required to link the new code to the RSS systems.
This will allow the new code base to be used in parallel with the existing system to verify correct behaviour.
