As part of a programme of events and celebrations to mark their centenary, The King’s Building (KB) campus and College of Science and Engineering (CSE) provided funding to commission a permanent work of art to mark the campus’ milestone. Following the University Commissioning Guidelines process in 2019 the artist Katie Paterson was chosen to produce a new artwork for KB. Katie is a graduate of ECA and has been an honorary fellow of the University since 2013. The work she proposed takes the form of a series of Ideas - short haiku like three-lined sentences cut in metal.

This project will result in educational resources and lesson plans which incorporate object-based learning initiatives using instruments from the Musical Instrument Collection. The lessons and resources do not require in-depth knowledge of music or musical instruments in order to be appealing to schools that may not offer music in their schools, in particular schools which fall into the Widening Participation umbrella. Each lesson plan align with the Curriculum for Excellence, incorporating music into a wide range of topics so that these lessons can be used in an interdisciplinary way.

Worktribe, the company responsible for producing the University’s pre-award/post-award research administration management system, releases 2 major versions of the application per year.

There is a requirement to keep within touching distance of the latest version in order that the University is able to take advantage of functionality which relates to key University business processes, e.g. leveraging performance and functional improvements, legislative changes, and increasing demand from research funders and our own researchers.
