GOFCoE Consultancy
GOFCoE (Global Open Finance Centre of Excellence) was created to drive the use of financial data as a force for better-informed policy making and policy evaluation with a view to improving lives. It will be one of the initial use cases for the EIDF (Edinburgh International Data Facility). GOFCoE is funded by the UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) Strength in Places Fund, which invests in research and innovation projects that aim to drive economic growth in specific areas of the UK.

The revamped Learning for Sustainability MOOC, which used to be on Coursera and is moving to FutureLearn, explores current global issues and invites learners to investigate specific local issues within their area in order to better consider how they can take action in response to these interconnected challenges. This course will appeal to those working within educational settings where they can either work with their learners on the course or bring some of the activities and issues covered in the course into their teaching context.

This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is a general introduction to Earth observation for beginners and non-technical people and contains no mathematics or substantive quantitative analysis. The primary aim is to provide students with a basic overview of how satellite observations inform our understanding of the Earth system, the environment and human impact upon it. The course also aims to funnel students into the Data Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) Online Learning MSc.

The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) is being held in Glasgow, Scotland (1 – 12 November 2021). The COP26 summit will bring together various parties including heads of state, climate experts and campaigners together to agree and accelerate coordinated action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

This new project is being initiated to gather requirements for use of discussion boards within College of Science and Engineering.
The software Piazza, a discussion forum tool is currently being used within CSCE (Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, Informatics and Engineering), and CAHSS (in two schools), for the last six or seven years.

Within the EdWeb infrastructure, the varnish and memcache servers have already reached their operating system (CentOS 6) end of life. The move of varnish to CentOS 7 is believed relatively straightforward and will be picked up in support.

University of Edinburgh hosts start of term open days for news students joining the University twice a year; September and January. September takes in amounts to ca. 10,000 new students from across the world. Professional Services concentrate on the administrative, IT and joining activities to ensure the best experience possible. ISG is responsible for IT Services readiness, new cards, personal IT (Wi-Fi), Library tours, as well as learning and teaching technologies.
