Developing a Story Map for the Recipes for Resilience: Engaging Caribbean Youth in Climate Action and Afrodescendant Food Heritage through Story Mapping and Song project.

This project is to conduct an audit of IT systems in use across Estates.

The initial scope will be to gather basic information about each IT systems. Once this work is complete, a review will take place and the scope of the any future work will be decided at that time.

The scope is to support the new EFI programmes and courses administration in EUCLID. They will largely work, but there are two issues to be addressed:

  • Issue 1: Ability to charge new fee rates; change to processes to allow admissions, invoicing and other administration and reporting for EFI online programmes and courses to operate
  • Issue 2: Variable Invoiced at Course Level (ICL) course costs between programmes with difference overall fees

The benefits for issue 1 are

During 2020/21 ISG Research Services (RSS) and Systems Biology (CSE) had worked together to understand the potential for combining the expertise in the two areas (service infrastructure in RSS and experience with research image analysis) to potentially expand the current Systems Biology OMERO implementation to a more general University wide service.

The RSS compute and storage  infrastructure underpins all computational and data based research activities in UoE. All infrastructure hardware has a finite defined maintenance lifetime. A typical supported lifetime for server and storage hardware is 5 years (the majority of vendors will not supply maintenance for longer periods). University of Edinburgh research infrastructures have been operating in a “rolling refresh” model for the last 5 years.

The use of general-purpose GPUs nodes to off-load image processing from the main CPU are now common practice in computational research.  Arrays of general-purpose GPU nodes are no longer considered as niche infrastructure but an expected component of computational services for research-based applications.
