ERI has had its current pre-award research management system, InfoEd for 12 years. Our installed version of the software is unstable and performs poorly costing a considerable amount of operator time.

The main driver for this project is to deliver efficiency gains to ERI, RGS and Colleges. This will be done by removing the need to double key information by harmonising reporting requirements, removing duplication of effort, and better capturing the information required to support the grant administration process. This development will reduce complexity and make the supporting spreadsheets, databases and processes obsolete N.B. This project is phase 2 of the Infinite system development.  Phase 1 being developed under project RES017

The central (non-research) SAN infrastructure was procured in 2005 to provide a centralised storage environment for delivering core applications. This consisted of initial storage platforms, a storage network and backup solution, all over two sites.

A tiered storage environment was implemented providing mission critical class (tier 1) fast storage, a small amount of enterprise class (tier 2) fast storage and a bulk (tier 3) storage.

A project was conducted in 2010/11 to evaluate Microsoft Live@Edu / Office 365 service for University staff. Whilst the recommendation to move to this service for staff was not endorsed at that time by ITC, although the exercise was useful in understanding the market more intimately the student community via EUSA subsequently expressed a strong interest in moving to a cloud hosted Office 365 service in preference to their current use of OCS eDiary and SMS Mail, with OCS eDiary being hardly used by students and SMS mail perceived as out-dated.
