This project will upgrade the software that underpins the MyEd portal.

This software is called uPortal and is open source and led by the JA-SIG community. The University of Edinburgh are upgrading the version from 2.5.3 to 3.2.4.

As part of the upgrade project, there will be an evaluation regarding the new features associated with this release and the requirement to complete the updates to the various pieces of the technology stack to ensure uPortal remains built upon supported components

The paragraph text editor is deliberately limited to a small range of formatting options. This has allowed the website to develop and maintain a high level of consistency in the way paragraph text appears.

However, in the user survey completed in Sept 2010, over 40% of users requested that the functionality be enhanced to accommodate additional formats.

A number of years ago, Finance introduced the Student Finance Channel, allowing students to view and pay invoices online.  The channel has been very successful, with many millions taken each year.  Finance would now like to make use of this functionality to enable staff to view and pay invoices for services provided internally, such as Parking, or Sports and Exercise.

Under the requirements of Full Economic Costing, as reported by JM Consulting, in their Guidance Document, and as supported by the Finance Department; there is a direct requirement for the institution to drill down to the split in activity at room level. This was not stipulated as a hard requirement, prior to this year. The current space audit process has been in place for over 5 years and needs to be upgraded to take accounts of these extra requirements. There is also the opportunity to make the use of the system more user friendly.
