This proposal is to upgrade the existing Oracle database owned by Integrated Services, from Oracle 9.2 to 11.2.
The current version of the Oracle EUPS DEV, TEST and LIVE databases is 9.2. Oracle 9.2 is past its Extended Support date. The three EUPS databases should be upgraded to lower the cost to the University, to mitigate security issues and to enable the business owner to take advantage of new features which IS have currently implemented (SOA) and which IS will implement in the future.

Currently research award information is managed by Edinburgh Research and Innovation (ERI) and Finance Research Grants. ERI are focused on pre-award information, while Research Grants are focused on post-award information. ERI’s main IT system to administrate pre-award information is InfoEd, which has a fEC costing tool. Research Grants use eFinancials as their main IT system to store and administrate post-award details. Both ERI and Research Grants have a number of Excel sheets, MS-Access databases and manual processes to support their main IT systems.
