The report from the architecture scoping study, undertaken by external consultants, included a recommendation to create a data dictionary for the University.  This data dictionary will allow us to define the core data elements of the university and record them in a common format.  This resource will guide data integration between IT systems and will form part of the procurement criteria when purchasing new systems. This is an innovative project for the university and the proposal is to buy five days' consultancy from a data architect with experience of creating data dictionaries for large organisations, preferably HEIs, in order to produce a design that is sustainable and maintainable.  The resulting data dictionary would be populated incrementally by ongoing projects. Ideally the consultant would be able to advise on how to implement a user-friendly UI using a tool such as SharePoint or Drupal.
