We wish to investigate the process, management and infrastructure changes needed to allow the adoption of DevOps and automation in the delivery of infrastructure and applications across IS. This requires a reorganisation of the way that we all work and how change on systems is processed and accounted for. This project will pilot a virtual team operating on DevOps principles as well as Puppet configuration and setup.

The outcomes the projects seeks to achieve are:

Adoption of DevOps & a configuration management tool (Puppet is proposed) to provide UoE with automation and configuration management is a key component identified that will allow use of Infrastructure and Application deployments to continue at their current increasing rates whilst at the same time reducing staff delivery costs. Automation will offer UoE the capacity to better leverage our infrastructure and software stacks and automatically react to events, or loading, to help ensure that the end user experience remains excellent.

Adoption of this way of working will provide the infrastructure and application deployments with guaranteed uniformity & consistency of configuration.
