Employ a student intern to write user guides and record how-to videos for IS services and developed systems.

Too many of the services we develop and run have poor breadth or quality of user support information. Often the tendency is to prioritise work with more immediate returns and the people who are developing the documentation have a depth of knowledge that can make it hard to write effective guides for end users. By employing an intern who would be dedicated to this task we could ensure that time was devoted to developing user guidance and that it was better targeted to end users.

Staff would be expected to support the intern in learning how to use systems and in QA of the materials produced. This proposal is to pilot this approach in Applications for 1 year, with an intern student employed 7 hours per week.
