In recent years, a number of strategic analyses of our BI/MI landscape have been completed, through the Deloitte Consulting needs analysis, the UoE BI/MI Project, subsequent BI strategy, and the Gasp BI/MI Programme.

It is now widely accepted that BI must be improved in order for the University to achieve the strategic goal to “Empower decision makers with consistent, accurate and timely information that supports understanding and insight”. Several areas for improvement were identified by these analyses.  One area is BI architecture: the framework used to organise the data, information management, and technical components used to build BI systems.

It is important to recognise that BI architecture is an integral part of our enterprise architecture and an enabler for more effective Business Intelligence.

Therefore we must ensure that the development of the BI Architecture strategy and approach is completely aligned with our growing enterprise architecture practise and BI/MI programme.
