The Tobar an Dualchais website ( http://tobarandualchais.co.uk/en/ ) requires an overhaul. It is currently running as a ‘rescue site’, with limited update functionality for the community.

It is also due to go out of service in July 2020.

The Library Digital Development and Systems team has agreed to migrate the cataloguing section of the Tobar an Dualchais website; the new front-end will be designed and built by Primate Digital Agency ( https://www.primate.co.uk/ ). Primate will collect the data using the Archives Space (https://archives.collections.ed.ac.uk) API.

The existing cataloguing section is an application developed by EDINA, with a postgres SQL database underpinning it. It also offers the ability to host the media files which are essential to this body of work.

ArchivesSpace has been identified as the correct tool to use to allow this cataloguing to take place, as it is core to the Library’s infrastructure. This means that we are not introducing a new system, so we are not taking on issues around support and maintenance. In effect our intention is simply to (with some additional complexity) host new data.

This project follows on from the HSS028 Scottish Studies Digital Archive - Appraisal & Strategy work which was completed in 2019 and the solution is a hybrid from the recommendations highlighted from that project.
