The University of Edinburgh is working with a third-party supplier to deliver a style guide and site map which will inform a clean and impactful redesign of Collections.ed.
The University of Edinburgh’s cultural heritage collections (manuscripts and archives, art collections, rare books, musical instruments, etc.) are curated and managed by the Centre for Research Collections (CRC) and digital access to these collections is provided through Collections.ed.
When Collections.ed was delivered by the Digital Library in 2014, it was initially devised as an online collections catalogue, however increased demand has resulted in the current online portal and collections catalogue.
The redesigned site will provide users with a clear and way easy to navigate the site, allowing multiple entry points to collections and multiple ways of engaging with the content as well as providing access to relevant associated information.
In order to achieve these aims, the University is seeking to deliver a new design, look and feel for Collections.ed which alongside the new online exhibitions platform being delivered under DLIB015, will allow users to experience and interact with the University's digital collections in new and innovative ways.
