The University of Edinburgh is working with a third-party supplier to deliver an online exhibitions platform where content from the University's extensive cultural heritage collections can be displayed to users in new and engaging ways.
The University of Edinburgh’s cultural heritage collections (manuscripts and archives, art collections, rare books, musical instruments, etc.) are curated and managed by the Centre for Research Collections (CRC) and digital access to these collections is provided through Collections.ed.
When Collections.ed was delivered by the Digital Library in 2014, it was initially devised as an online collections catalogue, however increased demand has resulted in the current online portal and collections catalogue.
Further developments are needed in order to deliver improved access to online collections for users to not just view but also engage with the University's content. This is especially pertinent in the current hybrid learning environment we find ourselves.
In order to achieve these aims, the University is seeking to develop an exciting, engaging and interactive online exhibitions and storytelling platform which alongside the Collections.ed redesign being delivered under DLIB014, will allow users to experience and interact with the digital collections in new and innovative ways.
