Report for July 2024

Report Date
July 2024

First Pilot completed successfully, using the current AVD solution as the framework (a parallel instance of the existing service). This offers streaming applications.

Intention is to build and test a full virtual desktop solution for the 2nd and 3rd Pilots in Semester 2 so that we have different solutions for different parameters. i.e. 3 options : Existing AVD, New AVD, Azure Lab (Virtual Full Desktop) We anticipate that Virtual Desktrop will be the best option.

One Drive is used for saving in all  approaches

Other developments pending

  • Consider a proforma as a way to define the parameters to define the solution to choose. Look further in devolving authorisation so local CO's can add students to classes.
  • So 160 Core with GPUs are needed
  •
  • For Azure labs we may have up to 160 individual assignments to individual students - best done via csv file with name and email which is processed
  •
  • Communication tor wider group and how to asses demand for start of term 23/24 - return to this later with College Reps
  • Best Practise for Hybrid Classes - follow up later
  • Documentation to be prepared as we move from Pilot to Service Consider offering Best Practise recommendation from LTW for Hybrid teaching.
  •
  • We have got good support from most senior MS Cloud Services UK Management for this initiative - we can raise expectation in regard to resourcing
  •
  • We will need to set out a projected estimate to provide virtual desktops to courses, as a service on demand (options for full virtual desktop and virtual apps) (meeting 4th May)
  • We will need to confirm that we have the Desktop resource to run the service (meeting 16th May)
  •
