A critical phase of every software deployment involves end user testing. Typically this is carried out using spreadsheets and word documents. Frequently this is quite a disconnected process that can be hard to manage and frequently it is carried out at the last minute. Defects that are uncovered are then slow to be addressed and project efficiency is damaged badly. Both Service Excellence and Digital Transformation will require large scale software deployments.

We have an opportunity to transform this complex problem using a cloud based service called TestRail. This solution was successfully used by HR on eRecruitment. This technology allows technicians and developers to work with end users and to develop test suites that will be used to validate software during end user testing.

The tool allows project managers, sponsors and technical staff to monitor the progress of the testing and for any defects that emerge to be immediately sent back to development for attention. This transforms the whole process and accelerates test management maximising the turnaround time for this crucial phase of any software delivery project.
