The primary objective of the project is to deliver a working EDW capability into the production environment. The project will be scoped to include mainly “must have” deliverables.
From a business perspective, the project aim is to deliver an EDW capability that can begin to support business driven data acquisition projects as soon as possible. This capability achievement is tracked by the ‘production ready’ programme milestone.
This project is concerned with four key areas:
- Creation of the technical environments that will underpin the EDW service.
- Acquisition of Organisation / Hierarchy data, as a fundamental EDW business data asset.
- Creation of associated technical documentation and guidelines, for use by this project and follow-on business driven projects.
- The adaptation of existing development and service management organisations to support future change and BAU activity.
There will be a follow-on “embed & optimise” project (DTI021) that will aim to deliver “should haves” and other non-critical items. This will enable the achievement of the ‘enterprise ready’ programme milestone. Refer to the programme plan for more information.
The project follows on from the Proof of concept (COM029) which confirmed the viability of the chosen EDW design methodology.
The procurement and implementation of an ETL tool is outside the scope of this project and is being delivered separately by projects DTI004 “ETL Tool Procurement” and DTI005 “ETL Tool Implementation” respectively.
This project is part of the EDW programme, under the Digital Transformation portfolio.
