Report for May 2018

Report Date
May 2018

Summary

Project needs re-planned - once we have commitment as to when build work can complete and UAT activates can commence/finish.

Project is RED as the open issues regarding resource constraints and limited UAT engagement has resulted unknown dates for a number of the key milestones.

A Softcat consultant was on site in May to supplement the Desktop services team and to progress outstanding build tasks as required. As the build tasks did not complete as expected, he will likely need to come back in late June/July (dates TBC).

The Technical Testing plan has been agreed with Enterprise, however dates for when the testing will be undertaken is yet to be determined.

Achievements in Last Period

  • Some progress made with outstanding build tasks, however there are a number of tasks still to complete as we move into June
  • The low-level design (LLD) and technical architecture document (TAD) are close to completion – expected to have final draft submitted for internal review (Softcat) at the start of June, with distribution to UoE stakeholders soon after.
  • Branding of the login pages and storefront have been agreed
  • Technical and user documentation drafted
  • Engagement with training, helpdesk, production support and accessibility teams underway

Issues and Risks

  • Risk: Due to a lack of progress on getting firewall access agreed and implemented for NHS sites, there is a risk that the access will not be in place in time for UAT or service roll-out.
  • Issue: There is issue obtaining resource from within the Enterprise team. They have never been officially allocated to the project, however are required for a number of key tasks to get the design/build stages complete. This has resulted in a delay to the completion of the design and build milestones.
  • Issue: Limited UAT Progress - no commitment from the colleges regarding UAT in terms of when they will be able to create scripts and provide resource for test execution.
  • Issue: Service Unavailable over EDUROAM – ticket raised to investigate/resolve.

Next Steps

  • Reach agreement on when outstanding design/build tasks can be completed
  • Obtain commitment from UAT for scripting and execution activities
  • Further engagement with training, helpdesk, prod support and accessibility teams
  • Agree dates for technical testing to be undertaken by UNIX team
  • Draft communication plan - pending completion of build and design activities

Future Milestones

Project needs re-planned - once we have commitment to dates as to when build work can complete and UAT activates can commence/conclude.
