Overview
Background
This project will configure and deliver Windows 10 to a pilot group of users in Staff areas to ensure readiness to all of the Staff Community for project DTP012.
Scope
There will be a pre-pilot to 200 users within Estates and the School of Chemistry.
After the pre-pilot, X amount of users across a blend of staff from Schools, Colleges, ISG, CSG and USG will take part in the full pilot prior to full deployment to all staff as part of DTP012. This will include laptops and desktops.
Objectives
To update a number of pilot staff users to the new version Windows 10 prior to a full roll out to the wider community. This will allow any issues with the technical build, processes, training and documentation to be clear prior to full rollout.
Deliverables
- Deliver Windows 10 to an agreed number of staff and business pilot users
- Technical training to locally devolved areas complete
- Support training complete
- Relevant documentation updated
Benefits
This pilot project will allow a clear path to deployment to all staff users in project DTP012.
Success Criteria
- All Windows supported desktops migrated to the new version of Windows 10 in the pilot group
- Agree to deploy to the wider community and implement DTP012.
Project Milestones
SEPTEMBER
•Kick off session held
•Identify resources for project from USD/DST/LTW
•Identify and co-ordinate with pre-pilot areas
OCTOBER
•Migrate pre-pilot users (200 machines over two areas)
•Evaluate costs and benefits of two models for migration (wipe and load vs in-place)
•Gather feedback from pilot area
•In-place migration to be investigated (if Board agrees with this)
•Produce documentation and training materials (if LTW resource available)
NOVEMBER
•Identify areas for wider testing in pilot
•Start migration of pilot users
DECEMBER – FEBRUARY (dependant on how we manage user data and which migration method is used)
•Migration of all pilot users completed
•Feedback gathered from pilot users
•Project closedown
