As part of its strategy to renew the university's central research computing infrastructure, the university has procured an extensible large multi-processor system suitable for carrying out computationally and data intensive research. The system will perform as both a traditional batch job scheduled system, and, optionally, as an OpenStack cloud service. The system will be used for a range of applications including large scale simulations, image processing, data mining, and data analysis. The system is required to provide a University resource for a diverse number of research applications today and this will increase in the future.

This project is to install the system on site, run acceptance tests against the tender requirements, and confirm that the system is ready for use and to underpin a new service, which will be deliverd by a subsequent project in 2015/16.
