This project will deliver, in parallel, power and cooling improvements to the ISG data centres at the James Clerk Maxwell building (King’s Buildings) and at the Appleton Tower (George Square). The plan is to deliver the upgrades to both data centres during the summer break in August 2018.

The scope for both sites includes -

  • Design, supply, install, test and commission new modular UPS units (resilient N+1 configuration)

  • Design, supply and install UPS paralleling switchboards with bus coupler

  • Extend existing distribution boards to provide resilient power supply

  • Design, install, test and commission new PDUs and cabling to all racks for power resilience

  • Design, install and test cold aisle containment measures

  • Design, install and test additional cabling to enable plug-and-play 2nd generator installation later

The scope of this project was reduced in March 2018 to only delivering cold aisle containment for Appleton Tower. Full scope for JCMB is still retained and the Phase 1 power string will be delivered  in January 2019 and the Phase 2 string (for resilience) in April 2019.
