Visions for Change lectures take place during Semester 2. This year they were hosted at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation and the Grassmarket Community Project. The SRS department delivered two Visions for Change events from January – March 2017.
This Visions for Change event explored Scotland’s Housing Crisis, outlined the key issues, and discussed how the crisis might be overcome. Despite the turn out for this event being disappointingly low (87 booked, 48 attended), the audience were very engaged and were representative of practitioners working in a variety of housing roles. The department received email feedback that was complimentary about the event.
This event explored the issues associated with plastics, and why a circular economy focused approach is far more useful than focusing on waste, recycling or an end to production. There was a significant drop off rate, with 59 attendees out of 120 registered. Overall the quality of discussion and debate was very high, and feedback from speakers and attendees was extremely positive.
The Visions for Change event on Modern Slavery was postponed due to the sector-wide strike. The series is currently being reviewed for next year, with a focus on the purpose and the audience.
