Overview

Background

The Trend 963 BEMS (Building Energy Management System)

  • This is a third party application utilised by Estates and Buildings to monitor the heating, cooling and ventilation systems across a number of specific buildings throughout the University estate
    • This is utilised by critical installations within animal research labs and holding areas and category 3 labs, where in the event of identified issues, alarms are sent to Security to investigate. In addition, the system sends automatic daily environmental charts to Lab Managers to ensure that strict Home Office requirements are being maintained.
    • The controllers communicate with the central server by pushing data to server
    • Currently only 1 alarm system will be setup in test
    • The existing Trend 963 BEMS application currently exists on a stand-alone desktop pc in Estates, for which there is no automatic backup, system patching or disaster recovery facilities for the current installation – all events requiring time consuming manual intervention from the resident Control Systems Engineers who manage the systems.

This project will provide a more robust, managed and resilient system through automatic backups and the ability to transfer within the IS infrastructure in the event of potential disaster

Scope

  • Migration of the stand-alone desktop Trend 963 BEMS application to an IS virtual environment
  • Trend Lite PC running at ACF (Advanced Computing Facility (Easter Bush) / Western General Hospital / Anne Walker Building at KB to be removed
  • IS Apps will be hosting the Trend 963 application

Out of Scope

  • Any enhancements to the systems (Scope is to only include what is already there and to migrate it to a supported IS Apps infrastructure)
  • IS Apps will not be supporting the application

Objectives

  • To migrate the Trend 963 BEMS application to a secure and managed IS virtual environment

Deliverables

  • Deliver Trend 963 BEMS application to an IS Apps managed supported infrastructure incorporating
    • Build servers for TEST and LIVE environments
    • Disaster recover testing
    • RDP (Remote Desktop PC) access to server for 2 external vendors (Trend and East Coast Controls, however may rise to 6 in the future)
    • Migrate the existing 400 controllers to the new infrastructure
    • Single license for 6 concurrent users
    • Provide MS Excel on Test and Live Servers for required management information reporting

Benefits

  • This project will provide a more robust, managed and resilient system through automatic backups

  • The ability to transfer servers within the IS infrastructure in the event of potential disaster

  • Data held in a secure location with restricted physical access

Success Criteria

  • That the Trend 963 application continues to function as at presently.
  • Backups are completed
