Technical Notes during Planning Phase
Further information
- Current use of 963 supervisor
- Estates do not use PC in estates, they generally use the server (in Estates)
- Personnel in research and the animal centres use the client web set up
- There are also external clients, currently, Trend and East Coast, however this may expand in the future
Remote Desktop PC (RDP) machine
- Remote access is esssential
Standard users client web - capability is very limited
IP requirements for Virtual Lans
- the VM server IP address 172 16 4
- the VM server IP address 172 16 6
These IP ranges are where most of their controllers reside. However some of their older controllers are still on the standard university ranges. As the existing BEMS servers can communicate with more than just these two ranges, there should be no problem with the Trend system being able to communicate out with these ranges as well.
(most controller are with in the 172.16.4.x and 172.16.6.x ranges, some older controllers may still be on other university networks.)
Currently Server pulls data from device
Private BEMS network already exists, Trend server could be added to
- new VM requires ordered for
- TEST
- LIVE
Joint exercise between Estates, Trend and Dev Tech to gain more in house skills
Server db
- Sigma has DB and application on same database
- Consider for Trend 369
Data only updated manually or by daily schedule
Current Estates PC
- 4 gb RAM currently have on Estates PC, however Estates feel the more memory available the better ( Estates are hoping to remove 'field set up')
Trend 963 quote
- To upgrade the Ann Walker 963 supervisory software from 963L to 963 6 User, initially upgrade lite version to server 3 user
version, then add on an additional 3 users.
- Additionally alter the exisitng alarm address within 17 EINC's to reflect the new PC IP address. Alter the alarm address within 29
IQ3 controllers to reflect the new PC IP address.
- We have allowed 2 days engineering time to modify the alarm address's, Ann Walker 963 serial number would be required
prior to processing the upgrade order
ECC - East Cost Controls
still to get costing from ECC for the alarm addressing of the sites which they service and will forward this when Estates have it, however an estimate is £1,000
System requirements received from Trend for the virtual server.

Extracted information:
963 will run on the following operating systems. The PC must be of a suitable specification to run the required operating system.
- Windows XP Professional SP3 32 bit
- Windows Vista Business SP2 32 bit
- Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit
- Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit, Windows 7 Professional 32 bit, Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Windows Server 2003 SP2 32 bit Standard, Windows Server 2003 SP2 32 bit Enterprise Windows Server 2008 SP2 32 bit Standard, Windows Server 2008 SP2 32 bit Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 SP2 64 bit Standard, Windows Server 2008 SP2 64 bit Enterprise, Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64 bit Standard, Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64 bit Enterprise Windows Server 2012 64 bit Standard Windows 8 32 bit, Windows 8 64 bit, Windows 8 Enterprise 32 bit, Windows 8 Enterprise 64 bit, Windows 8 Pro 32 bit, Windows 8 Pro 64 bit Windows 8.1 32 bit, Windows 8.1 64 bit, Windows 8.1 Enterprise 32 bit, Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64 bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit.
All operating systems require Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 or greater. Windows Server 2008 R2 SP2 Express requires Dot net 3.5 framework to be installed before 963.
Processor :1.4 GHz.
RAM :1 GB for 32 bit operating systems or 2 GB for 64 bit operating systems.
Disk space : 40 GB hard disk with 5 GB free for installation (4GB in the drive where Operating System is installed + 1 GB in the drive where 963 is going to be installed) + space for site data.
Obviously, the more resources/cores are allocated to the VM hosting 963, the better really!
The above recommendations are really made as a minimum requirement.
We test our software under a VMWare environment, but I have also tried it under a Citrix based solution too. As long as the hosted Windows version is supported by the Hypervisor, and it can allocate suitable hardware resources for 963 to use (network cards etc) I can’t really see that we would have a problem.
