Overview

Background

Currently energy consumption with regards to electricity, gas, water, heating and cooling is collated and subsequently reported through a variety of systems which were perceived as placing  a large management overhead to oversee, administer and maintain, but also does not always present data in the format required.  Having commissioned an independent analysis of current systems and potential alternatives within the project EST087 - Energy Systems Consolidation, the recommendations were to

  • re-evaluate the existing Automatic Meter Reading Systems (AMR's) with the latest version of software  and evaluate over a further 6 month period
  • evaluate the new Optima Visualiser. The project will look to evaluate the Optima reporting tool Visualiser through the creation of a number of specified reports.  Optima visualizer provides drill down reporting capabilities similar to Business Objects

 

Scope

The scope of the project will focus on;

  1. Automatic Meter Readers (AMR) - Having just completed the upgrade to ElComponents MeterRing, this project will look to
    1. consolidate the service supplied by Dynamat DATA BIRD Radio System by upgrading to the latest release
    2. implement a pilot project to evaluate the Dynamat 2050 Modbus System (Cloud Based) solution at a specific building within the campus
  2. Implement the new Optima  Visualier software

  1. Manage the deployment of ElComponents desktop application for nominated individuals
  2. Manage the deployment of Dynamat  desktop application for nominated individuals
  3. Restoration of missing Dynamat related data

Out of Scope

1. Metering Audit - Complete a full AMR audit of the Holyrood Campus and prepare a schedule of work to address the highlighted gaps

 

Objectives

  1. To ensure that the AMR's are utilising the latest version of software
  2. To evaluate the alternative Dynamat 2050 Modbus System (Cloud Based)
  3. To ensure that the Energy department personnel have sufficient knowledge of the applications in use
  4. To produce initial Energy reporting requirements both for the Estates Department and the immediate business partners using Optima Visualiser

 

Deliverables

The following deliveries must be achieved as part of the project

  1.  Dynamat
    1. Update existing Dynamat DATA BIRD Radio System AMR to latest version of software
    2. Implement the alternative Dynamat 2050 Modbus System (Cloud Based) solution for a specific building within the campus if proves to be fit for purpose.  In the event that the decision is taken not to proceed with the pilot, the replacement meters will be re-directed to ElComponents AMR
    3. Ensure all AMR readings are accessible to Optima
  2. Training
    1. A training plan regarding the applications in use
    2. The implementation of the specified training  
  3. Production of identified Energy related reports

Benefits

  1. The Dynamat DATA BIRD Radio System AMR systems will be updated to provide a more robust meter capturing environment
  2. The Energy Controls department can fully evaluate the alternative Dynamat DATA BIRD Modbus System (Cloud Based) solution
  3. Enhanced application product knowledge within the Energy department
  4. Enhanced management information with regards to Energy reporting - enabling improved monitoring and tracking
