Project Brief
Background
Following on from the delivery of the eStores web-based stock requisitioning system for the Human Genetics Unit through Finance project FIN074, the key aims of this project are to further develop this application so that it can be rolled out to other areas of the University which incorporate a store.
The project will also include implementing a solution for dealing with barcode scanners and further development of the application to effectively complete the eStores implementation.
The process of incorporating barcode scanning into the eStores application will address the need for automatic uploading of stock issues to eFinancials which is currently a manual process involving: -
- manual transfer of data from the barcode scanners to a local pc in the store
- manual transmission of files to FIS
- manual uploading into eFinancials stock tables by FIS
- manual correcting of errors by FIS after consultation with the relevant stores
The ability to automate this entire process, would be significantly beneficial to all involved in stock management, with time and effort saved for FIS staff estimated to be in the region of one full day per week, with similar time savings expected for School stores staff.
The target stores for this rollout have been identified as: -
- Chemistry (272CHE)
- ICMB (272IMB)
- ICAPB (272IPB)
- SCRM (272CRM)
- Roslin (282EBS)
- QMRI (282QMR)
- Little France (282LFS)
