Key activities in this area in Q2 are as follows:
- SRS is supporting a group of students from the Buchanan Institute to explore labs consumables packaging. The aim of the project is to identify opportunities to reduce or reuse packaging, or swap to more sustainable forms of packaging. SRS has facilitated contact with labs users and procurement colleagues. In January 2020, Alexis attended a presentation by the students on their findings so far,and provided feedback. This project is ongoing.
- SRS is collaborating with students from the MSc Carbon Finance course to develop non-spend based carbon accounting methodologies for scope 3 supply chain emissions. The project is led by Liz Vander Meer, with Alexis and Peter (Procurement) supporting. The group will be focusing on emissions resulting from catering, construction and supplier deliveries.
- Alexis is supporting a group of students from the masters course Case Studies in Sustainable Development who will be benchmarking the Fairphone and other mobile phone manufacturers against a range of social and environmental criteria.
Next quarter we will host a student placement on modern slavery in partnership with the LLM in Human Rights. A food-related dissertation proposal may also be developed.
