Overview

Background

The University's eRecruitment service is built on a non-standard character set and Core have recommended not upgrading until the character set has been converted. The eRecruitment Board have acknowledged that it would be desirable to upgrade eRecruitment and move to a newer version of the application which will improve the current support position and provide some functional enhancements.

The purpose of this project is to complete a Proof of Concept in advance of a future project which will Upgrade eRecruitment and convert the character set.

Scope

The scope of this project is to:

  • Test and implement a software modification on the DEV, TEST and LIVE environments which will prevent the creation of submissions containing data that could exceed the database limits on the future converted character set
  • Data Management plan: Plan how to manage any impact to data following conversion to the new character set. Implement changes which are possible within this project.
  • Trial the Upgrade and character set conversion process being proposed by Core
  • Prepare project plan for the Upgrade and Character Set Conversion project

Objectives

  • To prove the proposed Upgrade and Character conversion set process will be successful
  • To understand impact to data and plan for how to manage the impact

Deliverables

  • Software modification deployed to DEV, TEST and LIVE
  • Data Management plan - This document will describe the retention of a copy of the current eRecruitment data offline, the process which will be completed to truncate data and how Lossy data exceptions will be handled as part of the future Upgrade and Character Set conversion project.
  • Truncated data in DEV, TEST and LIVE
  • Project Plan for the 15/16 project to Upgrade and Character Set conversion project.

Benefits

The benefits of this project are that the process which Core are proposing for the future Upgrade and Character Set conversion project will have been tested through this Proof of Concept project and the University can then enter into the Upgrade project with a high level of confidence that it will be successful.

Benefits to users of the service will only be realised on completion of the Upgrade and Character Set conversion project which is being planned for 15/16.

A benefit of this project to the University is that a software modification is being made to the service to prevent submissions containing data that could exceed the database limits on the converted character set being created.

Success Criteria

 The success criteria are:

  • There will be a data management plan
  • The software modification will be fully tested and deployed to LIVE
  • The eRecruitment Board approve the plan for the Upgrade and Character Set Conversion project
