Xerte (http://www.xerte.org.uk/) provides a full suite of open source tools for elearning developers and content authors producing interactive learning materials. It is easy to use, especially for non specialist users or learning technologists. This is very appealing to staff and students who want to create learning objects, easily and quickly, for presentation and sharing.
The Business School has started a pilot of Xerte to evaluate its functionality and appeal, not only for use by the school but also across the University. The pilot runs for one year, until end of June 2018. Representatives from LTW and all three Colleges have been included in this pilot. Early impressions of the pilot are very positive and the Business School is keen to use the remaining time in the pilot to build a business case for central support. The intention is for this business case to be made to LTW for inclusion in the next planning round, i.e. for support in session 19/20.
This project will support the move of the current installation (https://xertepilot.is.ed.ac.uk) from cPanel environment to a supported LAMP stack infrastructure.
