Closure Report

All work completed successfully.

Work completed

  • Five-yearly maintenance of the circuit-breakers in the distribution board
  • Replace a faulty mains-return relay which has caused issues in previous testing, and which may cause a serious issue in the event of a mains failure
  • Replace several faulty meters used to monitor the power consumption.

Benefits Achieved

1.            All service owners fully prepared for the Power Down and impact is minimised were possible

2.            Essential maintenance and outstanding repairs completed – reducing risk, wasteful power consumption,

Issues

A number of services experienced outage after the power down.

It is out of the scope of this project to follow up on these but service owners and service managers can decide if this is simply to be noted for  any future AT power down, or if some technical change is required : some change in configuration or if a service should be moved to MSDC or if additional resilience/power supply needs to be arranged.

There was a network issue that was triggered when power was restored to Appleton Tower on a legacy router. This resulted in on-campus disruption to a number of services over the afternoon and early evening. We have put in a workaround to resolve this issue and the network issue has been resolved.

Lessons Learned

Project did not communicate to all the various helplines as to the work over this weekend which might have alerted us earlier to some calls that came in.
