Work/Task Breakdown

A more extensive WBS will be provided once work during the analysis stage has determined the details of work to be carried out under this project. However, the first stage of work (Analysis) will cover the following:

  • Cataloguing all current servers that have been deemed obsolete and that are to be decommissioned.
  • Cataloguing what is on the obsolete servers (e.g. supporting software technologies, applications, software, databases).
  • Determining what should be decommissioned.
  • Ascertaining if applications or programs can simply be 'switched off' or if they need to be migrated/can be migrated; or if they need to be upgraded/can be upgraded.
  • Classifying each of the applications or programs identified above and judging whether they can be included in this project, or if they should be included in related or new projects.
  • Estimating for future stages of the project.
  • Planning the remainder of the project (as far as possible).

Resources Skills and Cost

The project currently has an estimate of 253 days effort, with 152 days in 14-15, and 101 days in 15-16. A more detailed estimate giving a breakdown of particular tasks and how much effort is required for these will be prepared during the analysis stage. The analysis has been estimated at 13 days effort. Once this is completed, further estimations will be carried out.

Staff from Development Technology and Technology Management will be the main resource, with involvement from other sections as required. Colleagues from ITI Unix and ITI Architecture will also be involved.
