Impact

Priority and Funding

This is a Discretionary project.

Core funded – this is a small project estimated as 30 days.

This project is within the INF Programme and should be considered a ‘Normal’ priority project.

Impact and Dependencies

As the impacted databases are unsupported and leaving the University open to potential security breaches, action is required to upgrade the databases and to support the business. There are dependencies on the availability of the required resource which is being managed on an ongoing basis throughout the project.

Additionally, there is a requirement to ensure that impacted databases and user groups are fully identified and included in the project.

While EdWeb is confirmed as out of scope for this project, there are around 600 websites scheduled to be migrated by March 2023 (in advance of MariaDB EOL in May 2023). There is a dependency on this migration work to ensure that the migration happens in advance of (or shortly after) EOL for the current version of MariaDB.

Lessons learned from previous projects

This project will mirror the approach undertaken by a similar project (INF143). In relation to the automation of tasks, this project will continue where INF143 left off, ensuring any learnings identified are adopted in this project’s approach.

Additionally, dependencies with other projects and business areas are being noted and will be advised when dates for the database upgrades are agreed.
