The University has ~200 buildings with the wireless network covering a significant proportion of those buildings. Over the past year CIS have undertaken to begin the process of surveying buildings to assess the existing wireless network coverage and identify areas which need improvement (see https://vpnreg.ucs.ed.ac.uk/access/floorplans.html) in order that we can achieve ubiquitous wireless network coverage and thus improve the student experience. Given the large number of buildings and the availbility of resource, this bid proposes that we employ students or equivalent to undertake the necessary training and survey the University's estate as described. This bid proposes the purchase of additional wireless survey equipment, training by the equipment supplier and the cost of employing the students for one year.
