Over the past few years, the CRC and Museums have had increasing success with student engagement events and activities.  The aim of this project would be to develop this success further, with a more dynamic and engaging library, museum and archive events programme aimed at supporting and assisting students while they are studying and during the exam period.  Last year’s Innovation Funded Festival of Museums and Student Engagement Interns were both very successful, and the aim for this year will be to use these models to create a fun programme of events more in line with the student calendar which will also appeal to the general public.  Events would cover a wide range of areas and interests, with some expected to be relatively small scale (such as a student library book group), whilst others would be open to a much wider student and public audience with high profile marketing and impact (such as guest speakers and events in some of the Summer Festivals).  Other opportunities to look at initiatives such as installing a short story vending machine (see: https://www.bookstr.com/article/innovative-vending-machine-offers-short-stories/1313) in the library will also be explored.  Funding for these events would be self-supporting; after an initial input, it would be expected that any income from the events would be used to fund the following event.

This project would require one part time student intern working one day per week for six months.  The intern would be responsible for organising and delivering a varied programme of at least 10 events.  The intern would also have the opportunity to look at other festivals and events we can participate in, sourcing additional funding streams for our events and helping with organising the 2017 CRC Summer School and making preparations for Welcome Week 2017.
