To coincide with the Torrie Collection exhibition opening at the Talbot Rice Gallery on October 28th 2016, a major new catalogue is being published to complement the exhibition. This is being edited by Dr. Genevieve Warwick and, rather than being a standard publication, or simply updated previous editions, this new catalogue will mark the culmination of a three-year student teaching and research project between postgraduate History of Art students and the Art Collection.

For the first time, student essays will be published as part of this publication – giving our students, both past and present, their first major publication credit. This will make our teaching projects with our Art Collection even richer as there will be a demonstrable link between our teaching, object based learning and formal research outputs.

The student essays that will be published have genuinely advanced our knowledge of the art works they focus on. All are of an outstanding academic level and are genuinely important additions to this publication.

The catalogue will be published in February 2017 at a special event at the Talbot Rice Gallery, and will be exposed to our FEUVA members (Friends of Edinburgh University Visual Arts) who are also part funding the publication. As well as having a clear application to the improvement of the student experience, the publication will also expose the collection to further Development opportunities.
