Media is changing the way we view the world and cutting-edge technologies provide us with an opportunity to see our world in new and exciting ways. Upskilling IS staff in the use of drones enables us to support creative media projects and push the boundaries of what is currently possible through static, ground-based video recording equipment. However, as the technology is new and legalities are still forming around its use, being able to provide the University with expertise into the use of drones, legal application, and be certified handlers, ensures IS is seen as a leader in driving innovation and digital proficiency. It also allows us to set the quality standard for the institution - drones are not toys and must be used with care. Such investment is likely to be highly desirable across the University; a service we could offer as a ‘value added’ chargeable product.
