This project will result in educational resources and lesson plans which incorporate object-based learning initiatives using instruments from the Musical Instrument Collection. The lessons and resources do not require in-depth knowledge of music or musical instruments in order to be appealing to schools that may not offer music in their schools, in particular schools which fall into the Widening Participation umbrella. Each lesson plan align with the Curriculum for Excellence, incorporating music into a wide range of topics so that these lessons can be used in an interdisciplinary way. The lesson plans are being created by a team of student volunteers and led by the Learning and Engagement Curator at St Cecilia’s Hall. The project allows for student volunteers to develop these lessons with input not only from museum staff, but also from local educators, strengthening the plans and resulting in the creation of engaging and meaningful experiences. The lesson plans are being designed for both primary and secondary school aged children. The lessons take place in the classroom, with the idea that this will culminate to a visit to St Cecilia’s Hall in the future.
