Project Summary:

1) A Drupal content-managed website, with additional Social Media functionality for registered users (staff and students), who can communicate and collaborate in designated groups.

2) Cometchat integrated with Organic Groups.

3) Instant Messaging within groups.

4) Blogging functionality within groups.

5) Filesharing/downloading within chat.

6) Shibboleth authentication implemented.

7) Bibliographic information system.

8) Professionally designed public-facing site with rebranded look and feel.

9) Training of IDCore staff by WIT in use of Drupal.

Analysis of Resource Usage:

Staff Usage Estimate: 30 days

Staff Usage Actual: 37 days

Explanation for variance:

The project was late to deliver, and exceeded the intended budget. This was due to:

1) Lack of resources at critical times.

2) Underestimating the complexity of requirements.

3) Unforeseen technical difficulties with implementing Shibboleth, and firewall issues.

Please note that 37 days was the amount displaying in ASTA when discussions were held with the customer.

Key Learning Points:

1) The customer should have been kept better informed of progress as critical deadlines approached.

2) IS Apps now has better understanding of integrating Shibboleth with Drupal.

3) In future, work of this kind will be handled by the specialised Web Integration Team who are better placed to manage these projects.
